The TO watch (model no. SILAN00x) was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka who is known for incorporating the material from which an item is made as the most important aspect in choosing a final design. As such, the TO watch started with an idea to create a watch case made entirely of stainless steel, making the watch seem more like a sculpture than a modern timepiece.
The hands of the watch are actually interior faces that move to tell the time with the hour markings etched directly on the outer face. The hour and minute 'hands' each have individual faces that move independently.

#issey_miyake_to_watch Expensive for a novelty design, yet not as unique as many people think - the use of stainless steel is the most interesting part of the design, not the 'mystery hands'. They have been made for years, see many variations in this gallery:
