Dopie Sandals
$60.00
Released May, 2007
The Pros:Nothing is as ugly as crocs, especially these. I like to wear the least I can, so these will do nicely, thanks. So much more comfortable than thongs and so much more interesting... i get comments every time.... love 'em. Have a very sexy video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nAu8NHYixs.
The Cons:Best things I have ever had on my feet. They actually look like a mutation of sorts, however have yet 2 try em, so maybe I can be convinced.... Ugly as anything you've ever seen.
Dopies are trying to oust the Crocs market for ubiquitous, yet not-quite-sure-why popularity. The Dopie sandal tries to break the mold of traditional sandals by foregoing the strap. Instead, by using light material and a rigid sole, a 'nipple' was created for the toes which would be enough to hold the shoe onto the foot.

After a lot of prototypes and serious studying of ancient examples from Tibet, the Dopie was formed. The toe-hold is made of a soft foam for comfort while the rest of the sole is made from EVA plastic and rubber. An optional strap comes with the shoe in case you're doing an activity that might cause your shoe to fall off (roller coasters, skateboarding, etc.) They're available in a variety of colors.
The original Dopie was designed by Matthew Harrison while studying at the Royal College of Art in London, England. He created the Dopie knowing people would be thrown by their lack of straps, but he remains confident that because of the toe-hold, straps are an unnecessary evil.
Prices can vary wildly, so it pays to search around.
A few reviews of the sandal are online: one short term use; one long. The latter also links to info on why the Dopie Sandal is also v. good for your feet from a biomechanical point of view.

#dopie_sandals they look better than crocs, they are more comfortable than havaianas, they are cheaper than birkies and are so durable..... I love mine, all my mates have since got pairs and we all get lots of positive interest

#dopie_sandals I got my first pair in spring '08 and plan to buy more for this summer. They're comfy, though do take some getting used to, just as it did when I started wearing flip flops many years ago. After a couple of hours, I didn't even notice them anymore.

#dopie_sandals TMNT- I was thinking the same thing. Not all ideas are good ideas, it would be a good sandal if the wearer was concerned about tan lines. The only time i think it would be most appropriate to wear is by the poolside, but I would never purchase or actually wear it.

#dopie_sandals Riiiiiight....Just like I'm curious what it feels like to step in dog sh.. These would look better on a TMNT than a person. Man, if these catch on, I will be very surprised (and annoyed).
